Substitute-Ready Theatre
Contributing Educator: Nicholas Holstein
When a teacher must be absent, maintaining the structure and quality of learning can be challenging for substitute teachers. This unit helps theatre educators prepare effective substitute plans that maintain classroom engagement, reinforce theatre concepts, and support positive classroom culture even when the teacher is away. This unit includes a lesson to lead with students prior to arrival of a substitute, who is a guest in our classroom. It includes a sub plan template, as well as complete single-day and multi-day lesson plans that are ready to implement. These lessons focus on core theatre concepts such as storytelling, character development, and visual expression.

Materials: Single and multi-day sub plans, a template for substitute lesson plans, and Google Doc printable resources are included to help guide your work and support student learning.
