Kathy Rucker

Kathy Rucker is an award-winning American playwright whose work has been produced in the U.S. and the U.K., captivating audiences with sharp wit, emotional depth, and timely explorations of contemporary issues.

Her play Crystal Springs premiered at London’s Park Theatre and San Francisco’s Eureka Theatre, earning the London Independent Story Prize for Best Stage Play. The Independent called it “an acutely intelligent play about cyberbullying… highly recommended.” Her play Darling, produced at the Hope Theatre in London, was nominated for the Standing Ovation Award.

Her most recent play, Possum Trot, was showcased at the Omnibus Theatre’s Engine Room festival in London in 2024, directed by Scott Le Crass, and will receive its world premiere at the Tabard Theatre (London) in the fall of 2025.

Other plays include Sultan’s Battery (Fresh Baked Theatre Company, Los Angeles), Turing Tested and Beautiful Scar (a finalist for the Heideman Award at the Humana Festival), and Done There, Been That (Bierkeller Theatre, Bristol). Her work has been showcased at the Great Plains Theatre Conference, Last Frontier Theatre Conference, and the Sewanee Writers’ Conference.

Before her playwriting career, Kathy worked as a producer in the film industry. She lives in California with her husband and daughter and is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley.
